Timeline

The 9th Annual Tłı̨chǫ Gathering took place August 6 to 8, 2013, in Behchokǫ̀ at Elizabeth Mackenzie Elementary School. It also marked the 1st Session of the 3rd Tłı̨chǫ Assembly. Tłı̨chǫ citizens, leadership, Elders, and youth gathered to carry out governance work in a way that stays accountable to the people.

This gathering centred open dialogue and shared decision-making. Formal Assembly sessions were balanced with community forums, prayer, and drumming. Reports from the Tłı̨chǫ Government and the Tłı̨chǫ Investment Corporation were presented directly to citizens. Financial laws were reviewed and discussed in full view of the people they serve. Citizens had space to ask questions, speak freely, and guide the work.

A key moment of the 9th Annual Tłı̨chǫ Gathering was the Grand Chief nomination and acceptance process. Citizens witnessed leadership responsibilities being affirmed publicly, with transparency and respect. This reinforced that leadership flows from the people and remains answerable to them.

Holding the gathering in Behchokǫ̀ strengthened connection to community, family, and history. The presence of Elders grounded the Assembly in teachings and protocol. Youth participation ensured continuity and learning across generations.

The 9th Annual Tłı̨chǫ Gathering showed governance as a living practice. It reflected how you come together to listen, debate, decide, and move forward together, guided by Tłı̨chǫ values and collective responsibility.
