The Tłı̨chǫ Online Dictionary is a bilingual, community-driven resource that supports the ongoing use and revitalization of Tłı̨chǫ Yatıì. Originally developed in 2006, the dictionary has evolved into a dynamic digital platform that reflects the strength of the language and the knowledge of fluent speakers across Tłı̨chǫ lands.

Today, the dictionary contains more than 11,800 entries. It draws from the 1996 print edition of the Tłı̨chǫ Yatıì Enıhtł’è – Dogrib Dictionary and incorporates additional contributions from fluent speakers in Behchokǫ̀, Whatì, Gamètì, and Wekweètì. New entries, corrections, and expanded definitions continue to be added.

The updated platform offers improved search features, allowing users to search in Tłı̨chǫ, English, or both. Users can browse by topic or part of speech, explore detailed grammatical information, and access a full pronunciation guide with audio examples from fluent speakers. Special characters display correctly using standard Unicode fonts, with no additional downloads required.

The dictionary also includes:

  • A pronunciation guide outlining the 41-letter Tłı̨chǫ alphabet
  • Grammar sections covering writing conventions, sentence structure, verbs, nouns, particles, and more
  • A searchable database organized by source and contributor
  • A feature to suggest new words and contribute to the living record of the language

As Tłı̨chǫ Yatıì continues to grow and adapt, so does this dictionary. It remains a living document grounded in community knowledge and guided by ongoing contributions from speakers and learners alike.

Visit the Tłı̨chǫ Online Dictionary to explore, learn, and strengthen your connection to the language.
