The Tłı̨chǫ Special Gathering was held February 13 to 15, 2013, in Whatì at the Johnny Nitsiza Cultural Centre. This gathering brought Tłı̨chǫ citizens and leadership together at an important moment, creating space for focused discussion, collective decision-making, and community connection.
Special Gatherings are called with purpose. They respond to immediate governance needs while staying grounded in Tłı̨chǫ ways of coming together. This gathering centred direct dialogue between citizens and leadership. Social, political, and cultural activities took place alongside formal discussions, reinforcing that governance remains accountable to the people.
Holding the gathering in Whatì mattered. Being together in community strengthened relationships and ensured decisions reflected lived realities. Elders’ presence guided the tone of the gathering through teachings, observation, and shared responsibility. Families and youth ensured continuity and care remained central to the work.
The 2013 Tłı̨chǫ Special Gathering showed governance as responsive and people-led. It affirmed that when important matters arise, you come together, listen carefully, and move forward collectively, grounded in unity, respect, and responsibility to one another.
